Hey there!
I’m Maegan Griffin, a mother of three and the founder and CEO of Skin Pharm, a cosmetic dermatology company I run alongside my husband. As autumn unfolds, I’m savoring the cozy nights and shorter days. With the kids back in school, it’s time for me to embrace a more structured routine as we head into the holiday season.
Balancing family life, running a business, and prioritizing self-care is no easy feat, but I’ve found effective strategies to keep everything in check. Here, I'll share insights from my daily routine, tips for staying organized, and how I carve out time for self-care amidst the chaos. Plus, you can expect some skincare advice and product recommendations — because that’s my jam!
Let’s dive into what a typical day looks like for me and how I strive for balance.
Daily Routine
Let me take you through a typical day in my life. My mornings usually start early, around 5:30 AM, though I don’t always wake up at that exact time. I prioritize having some sort of food in the morning — like toast with pumpkin butter or Kodiak oatmeal— before my caffeine. Eating first helps me stay energized for the day ahead. After a quick moment to check in with myself, whether that’s looking at my planner or sitting in silence, I split school drop-off with my husband, and I love this time with the kids, even if I have to force them to talk to me!
Once the kids are off, I shift into work mode. I try to keep my mornings clear for focus time and deep work, followed by meetings and check-ins. I aim to incorporate some movement around lunchtime, whether it's a walk or a quick workout.
My afternoons are a mix of networking, clinic visits, client consultations, and administrative tasks. I love meeting with other founders to exchange ideas and collaborate, and regular check-ins at our clinics help ensure everything’s running smoothly. Plus, I enjoy co-treating with my team, offering skin care treatments!
I’ve also recently hired three executives since this time last year, and I’m feeling the lift! This change allows me to spend more time focusing on the vision, brand, and culture of Skin Pharm — areas where I can uniquely contribute to our company’s growth. I’m excited to be re-engaging on social media, fostering connections, and sharing our journey with all of you!
By 5 PM, it’s family time as our nanny heads out. We sometimes have sports practices or games that cut into dinner, but we prioritize sitting down together whenever we can. After the kids are in bed, I unwind with some reading, enjoy a warm bath, or watch a show with my husband to relax before turning in.
Prioritizing Self-Care
Self-care isn’t a luxury; it’s a necessity. It might sound cliché, but it’s so true. Here are some simple ways I incorporate self-care into my routine:
Breathing Exercises: Even a few minutes can make a big difference. I try to fit them in during the morning, before bed, while driving, or even when doing dishes. You get it!
Exercise: Staying active keeps me energized. While I love group fitness classes, I’ve had a hard time fitting them into my schedule, so I’ve prioritized walking or running, aiming for daily activity. I also focus on strength training about twice a week.
Quality Sleep: I prioritize getting enough sleep. It’s tempting to stay up late working, but a good night’s sleep makes me more productive the next day.
Small Joys: Whether it’s a warm bath, a good book, or catching up with friends, small joys help me stay balanced and happy.
Conclusion
As I navigate this busy season, I’m reminded of the importance of balance, both personally and professionally. In my next post, I’ll share my top tips for staying organized amidst the chaos. I’m looking forward to sharing more insights and strategies with you along the way!
